{Post} Updating Firmware/Unbranding

Title: Updating Firmware/Unbranding TUTOR
Author: St3gan0s
Description: Tutor meant to aid users updating/unbranding their T610 phone. ALSO Valid for other models, provided you search proper FirmWare versions and select the proper model.

Printer/Offline Friendly Version (pdf): Click here

For this you will need:
-Terminator Dongle
-Fully charged Battery
-Div 8.4 cracked
-T610 AVR and ARM files of matching version (R6B recommended)
-T610 Original GDFS (for Unbranding)

Before you Start:

What are AVR, ARM and GDFS (Theory)?
The AVR flash (Main CPU) Operates at high-level, is responsible for the User Interface and the instruction-set to use all the functions of our phone while the ARM flash (aka MODEM flash) operates at low level, that is, performs direct hardware control, being in charge of (among others) IrDA, Bluetooth and Data/Fax functions.
The GDFS holds down all the predefined items of the phone, such as Themes, Games and MIDIs. It also holds down your phones configuration data.

Choosing proper AVR and ARM:
NOTE: This description is for the latest firmware (R6B)

You may find the following designations: EMEA and EU. EMEA stands for EuropeMiddleEastAfrica while EU stands for EUrope, the main differences are the character support.
Keep in mind that each AVR file contains a specific Language Pack, being the only shared language among all packs the English.

EMEA1 contains: English, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian.
EMEA5 contains: English, French, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, and Russian.
EU1 contains: English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish.
EU5 contains: English, French, German, and Italian.

The ARM is not Language dependant.

(NOTE: AVR and ARM files need to be of the same version number, otherwise your phone will hang often. IF you download these files from the FOLLOWING LINKS you WONT have any problems..)

Downloads:
(FTP) R6B AVR and ARM (Click here)
(FTP) Original GDFS (Click here)
(FTP) DIV 8.4 Cracked and Unbranded (Click here)
It seams like the FTP is down, so you will need to register at www.cellular-support.com and get the files from there..

Since I don't have any control over the FTP, I can't say when it will be up again
I'll try to give direct links later on

Backup ALL your phone Contacts, SMS, MIDIs and Themes (Java and Mophun Games can’t be Backed Up [yet!]) through Cable/Bluetooth/IrDA since you WILL lose them after this proccess!. Your Terminator Dongle ISN’T suitable for this task.
TIP#1: If you haven’t got any mean of backing up your contacts and SMS, just copy them to the SIM card (for SMS the function is designated as Archive). Still, has a side effect, when recovering ALL your contacts will appear has Home Telephone, and multiple entry contacts will appear separate.

TIP#2: Unpack all the files in the same folder (DIV, ARM, AVR, GDFS) [ex: C:\DIV]

Getting Started:

1) Connect the Terminator Dongle to the PC (DO NOT connect your phone to the dongle!) [Firmly attach the Parallel cable and remember to connect the USB cable]
2) Start DIV
3) Remove the SIM card from phone and put back the Battery and Cover (DO NOT power on the phone! DO NOT interact with the phone!)

We will start by doing a SP Unlock to get you in the mood of the process.

Select your phone model (T610 is the default, but still verify..)

1) Select Rebuild SP Area Using OTP IMEI

2) Connect the phone to Dongle and press DO SELECTED JOBS
Wait for the Bypassing of Boot Authority and Conclusion of Selected Tasks, you should now have an unlocked phone.
Easy

Mooving to the FW Update itself:

1) De-select the Rebuild SP check box and select the AVR file and ARM file to flash (at the bottom of the program)

2) Press DO SELECTED JOBS and wait for completion (DO NEVER INTERACT WITH THE PHONE)

Once again wait for the Bypassing of Boot Authority, and then the update process itself will start.
When ALL TASKS ARE COMPLETED, unplug the phone from the Terminator, remove the battery, and replace it again (also put back the battery cover).

Now:
1) De-select the AVR and ARM.
2) Because the SP Area was once rebuild with DIV, EVERYTIME you re-flash your phone you WILL need to rebuild it once again, in order to get the CRC right. So select Rebuild SP Area Using OTP IMEI and Do selected jobs.

ONLY if you are unbranding your phone, Now you should:
1) De-select the Rebuild SP check box and select the Original GDFS file.

2) Press DO SELECTED JOBS and wait for completion (DO NEVER INTERACT WITH THE PHONE)

To ALL USERS, Finishing the Process:

1) Unplug the phone from the Terminator, put your SIM card back and put your battery and battery cover back.
2) Power ON the phone, you will see a blank screen for a while, this is a normal procedure. After that the phone will boot slowly and work slowly for a while.
3) Do a Master Reset to the phone. The phone will Power Down and then Power Up back again, it will say that is applying a new theme and after that will work slowly once again for a while.
4) Reconfigure your phone to your preferences.

You have now finished the process, congratulations!

TROUBLESHOOTING
This is ONLY for those who already are familiar with the phone flashing procedure but after doing some of their “Experiments” the phone become ODD..)

- ReFlash both ARM and AVR of the R6B
- If you are using the Special GDFS then flash the Original GDFS
- Rebuild all CRC's
- Reset GDFS (4-locks) [Because when you rebuild all CRCs the phone will produce 4-locks]
- Rebuid SP Area (Since there is also a CRC in the SP Area)
- Do a Master Reset

I will be Happy to answer ANY question in the Firmware section

ADDED: Pictures
DETECTED: DIV download URL not linking properly. VALID LINK though.. (will be smother SOON)

Thks for the Feedback!

ALSO#1: For those who have already unlocked phones, the getting started step (which is supposed to unlock your phone) WONT harm by any mean your phone.
As some may find, this step is redundant to the update process itself or the unbranding process (because you will do it again in the end), but STILL, IT IS MEANT to GET YOU AT EASE with the whole process.

ALSO#2: The flashing process itself starts without verifying what's your current firmware because R6B isn't Officialy available at the Service Points, thus, it's fair to assume that you will have at the most a R4 version. Anyway, IF someone already flashed R6B to your phone, this wouldn't harm your phone by any mean.

ADDED: Note about the need of AVR and ARM files to be of the same version number.

Still, If you download the files from the provided links, you DON'T even have to BOTHER about this note.
If you didn't download this files from the provided links, you will find the answer to the problem in the FAQ about Firmware Updating..

FIXED: Download link for DIV now works as smooth as it should.

Pictures appear to be UP again, but they are still on test for reliability (ISP Appears to have solved yesterday problems)

It's not easy to answer this question since it's country dependant.
Although, the Terminator Dongle can be found at most auction sites (search on a Bulgarian auction site [like a Bulgarian kind of eBay]).

One Question...

I heard to do this you needed to buy a '' log '' i.e. a username and pass to do this?

Is this true? Thanks

No, if you follow this tutorial, and have all the files and the terminator, you won´t need those logs

Sorry, just 2 questions:

1. Like our another friend, I'm in doubt about the .AMR file (because my file here that I've downloaded from the link you've indicated, it's in .sbn format)....

2. Do I need Terminator Dongle just to update my firmware? Or it's necessary just to unlock the phone?

Yes, it will work

The *.sbn is the extension for the ARM file, so everything is OK :P

Sorry for the delay.. I've been out for a while
