How to add flash menus to any W850i, W880i or any Walkman with CID49/51/52.

The old tutorial that was posted below no longer works with the new DV client. Saraph_ and exor figured out a way to do it on the new client.

You can read the new tutorial by eXoR in this thread --> CliCK HErE

Then come back here to see how to add new menus with a default_upgrade.xml

eXoR and I decided to link to each other to save time and make it easier for all people. We think this is the best way. His new tutorial hack and my tutorial half of adding with the default_upgrade.xml is 2 in 1.

Now onto the masterpiece.

Whenever you want to add new flash menus to the Walkman of your choice, you will need a ' default_upgrade.xml ' file along with some tricky wording on it to upload the flash menu file to the phone. This is where my 2 days of torture comes to play.

You can use a software called ' XMLSourceGenerator '. To create a new modified default_upgrade.xml file. Here --> XMLSourceGenerator.zip
or you can make a copy of the file you backed up from your phones other folder and mod that. I use the xmlgenerator cause it's faster.

Note:If you try to download the xmlgenerator and it says there is a file missing and wont let you open it, then try this.

Download the Comdlg32 Zip file Here -> Comdlg32.zip

Unzip the file using WinZip or any other utility

Extract comdlg32.ocx to %systemroot%\System32 folder

Then, type the following command from Start, Run dialog

REGSVR32 %Systemroot%\System32\comdlg32.ocx

You'll see a dialog like this:

---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\System32\comdlg32.ocx succeeded.
---------------------------
OK.

When you use the generator you will have a box like this.

In the select operation you want to choose ' copy '. Then in the 2 boxes below that you will want to clear them out. Those settings are for the K series and will not work for the W series phones.

In the first box you want it to say ' tpa/user/other/ . And in the second box you want it to say ' tpa/preset/system/desktop/flash/ . Like below.

Then after you got that all typed in you can hit the ' select the files that will be copied to the phone '.

It will open a browser box and browse to wherever you have your flash menus at on your pc. I included a bunch of them posted in a link below (already to go with a default_upgrade.xml file and all the default themes). Here's a link of some alone flash menus if you need some to try now. flash menus.zip

Then after you have selected them and clicked open. Click on the Generate XML source in xmlgenerator. At the bottom you will see the save file option for the xml file. Go ahead and save it somewhere you will remember. Save it as ' default_upgrade.xml '.

Now you will have the default_upgrade.xml file like the one that was on the phone other folder from earlier.

Now you can close out the xmlgenerator (click the x button). And on your phone go to the S.E. file explorer or bluetooth OBEX file system and browse the phone files for the folder called ' other '. Now copy the default_upgrade.xml file that you created with xmlgenerator into the ' other ' folder on the phone.

After that is done go and get all the flash menus that you selected in xmlgenerator when you selected the files to be copied to the phone.

Put those in the ' other ' folder along with the modded default_upgrade.xml file on the phone in the other folder.

Now your ' other folder should look like this depending on what flash menus you selected. The conversations folder is on my phone in the other folder, but if you don't have it then don't worry about it.

Now you can disconnect your phone and restart it. You should get a small box that pops up when restarting saying ' Please Wait '. That means it's working on uploading the new flash menus.

After the phone has restarted the new menus should be on the phone and you can delete whatever files are in the ' other ' folder that you put in there.

Note:
If you want to delete a flash menu from the phone. You simply use xmlgenerator like adding a flash menu. You just choose delete instead. And you don't need to put the flash menu in the other folder. Just the delete modded default_upgrade.xml file. If you accidentally add the same flash menu twice, I think it just over writes it in the phones os, so no need to try to delete 1 of the same.

All you have to do now is mod a theme to use the new flash menu on the phone and it should use it without a problem. I know devsmooth has a tutorial for theme modding on this forum located here --> CLIck heRE

Note: You have to put the exact name of the flash menu you uploaded to the phone in the modded theme or it won't work.

If you uploaded a flash menu named ' Active_W850.swf, then you would mod the theme to use that same name

Example: In the modded xml file in the theme you are modding: <Desktop_style Type="File" Source="Active_W850.swf"/>

Here is a zip containing all the default flash themes already modded with a default_upgrade.xml file and all the default flash menus that go with the default themes. Enjoy!---> Themes <---

Here is a link to some W850 flash menus by Lithium3r. Lithium3rs link

NOTE: You can use this software on your pc to preview flash menus before you waste your time putting them on your mobile. Just install the player and open it, then drag the flash menu into the player to preview it. You can also use a internet browser like FireFox. Just open FireFox and drag the flash menu over to the browser.
SwiffPlayer11.zip

Thanks goes out to seraph and eXoR for figuring it out. And still a big thanks to ego and R.I.P. for their original method and hack.

1. To enter flash mode on a german w880i (and maybe even other country w880´s), do NOT press "c" button, just use "2".
2. the phone MUST be debranded before following Waldog´s guide
3. if it´s not: you can debrand AND enable flash menus the same time, using only 1 Davinci Credit
3. therefore:
- make sure you use client 18.4
- make sure you have the USB flahs drivers installed
- on the main page of the DaVinci client software, click "read CID"
- turn off phone
- press "c" (or "2") on your phone and connect USB
- note which CID you have to use
- on the main page of the DaVinci client software, click the "flashes" tab, then "update file list".
- choose the right firmware, according to your phone´s CID and country
- check the boxes marked "main firmware" and "file system flash"
- click "get files"
- when the files have downloaded to your pc, return to the main page
- the two files you have just downloaded will be ghosted in the "main" and "fs" windows.
- click the two check boxes next to these boxes (top right of the window) to enable them
- click "finalization" also
- if the CDA field is not filled automatically, just select the CDA file from the list that matches the firmware you chose (i.e. you chose "cid 51 firmware europe 2", your CDA should be "europe 2 generic"
- then click the "advanced" box and continue with waldogs guide

no it isn't cause you'll have to use davinci to upload needed files to the file system, but this is what we got for cid51/52 ! So be happy that there even is a way to modify it.

k790/K800 doesn't support flash lite !

Dude, glad you got it sorted. It was all getting more complicated than it needed to be really. It`s always easy when you know how...

Yea. Now that I figured it out, all the people at the other forum want to act like they knew how to all along. They probably visit this site and saw this. Then went back and tried to reply.

If you decide to flash your fone then i recommend that you'll apply this "patch" at the same time when you flash your fone

You''ll save some money, if you decide to do this after you have flashed your fone and you can easily modify your fone
