You won't be able to unlock the phone with a datacable. You need a terminator dongle for that to work. I believe they are country specific but I'm not sure.

You just need a terminator dongle and the DIV software... go to www.cellular-support.com for the software and ways to get it... or even easier, take it to a repair centre and pay like $30 to get it done... the terminator dongle is like $200... not really worth you buying it for 1 unlock

It means that you can use it with different network providers.

Ent76, with a locked phone, it won't matter if u change the SIM card. The phone will only recognize the sim card it was registered to or a sim card under the same provider. Therefore it won't work if u put a sim card from a different one

not for sony ericsson phones... the programs that generate those codes use an algorithm to do so... only nokias and some panasonics and siemens have an algorithm that can do this... with the sony ericsson phones it is a completely random number that can only be read with a cable, and if you are using a cable its easier to just unlock it then... i can unlock any nokia phone and the panasonic gd55 if you give me the imei and the network that it is locked to... better yet, why pay optus or telstra or whoever the $80 to unlock it when its free here
