REVIEW: Sony Ericsson HBM-30 (Bluetooth Mp3 Player)

Picture

Product
Company: Sony Ericsson
Model: HBM-30
Category: Accessory
Firmware: N/A

Review (Thursday, January 08, 2004, by KFou)
Maintaining its legacy as the first company to bring music to your cell phone, Sony Ericsson continues this thriving tradition by introducing the HBM-30 Handsfree Mp3 Player.
After the successful Handsfree Mp3 Player HMP-10 and the Stereo FM Radio Handsfree the HBM-30 is the new Mp3 player from Sony Ericsson, which allows you to answer calls while listening to your favorite music (Atrac3 or Mp3) and utilizing Bluetooth technology. This nifty little device is powered by one ‘AAA’ battery, unfortunately we cannot connect via Bluetooth with our PC and send music, it’s noteworthy to say that your music is stored in a single 64 MB Memory Stick Duo (Sony Ericsson abandoned the use of the Multimedia Cards used in the HMP-10) so if you do not have a Sony Laptop or PC, you have to go out and get a Memory Stick Reader since it is not supplied to transfer music to the HBM-30.
The HBM-30 also has an LCD screen which displays your recordings Title, Artist (only if your recording is in ATRAC 3). What’s really great about this device is that if we are currently listening to our music and someone calls us; the music stops, we can easily see the number through the LCD display, and on the front of the HBM-30 we can either Accept or Decline the call by pressing the respective buttons. Furthermore the HBM-30 has a built in microphone which is embedded right on the device, unlike older models which had the microphone on the cable.
You can easily pair the HBM-30 with a Bluetooth enable Sony Ericsson phone, but it can also work completely independent like a stand-alone Mp3 Player, furthermore you can record sounds, and use external out for speakers instead of using the headset.

Atrac3

Its been selling for 65dollars at expansys (what a HUGE price CUT) It works best with Atrac3 (sound quality still remains high), sadly, one must get a sony card reader to get that option workin (i actually got 32 Atrac3 songs in a single 64MB MS DUO! i cant believe it)...now its non stop music for hours without the worry of running out of charge.

I think its the perfect time to get urself a HBM-30, for 65bucks its definitely worth it. (add another 30/40 bucks for a sony card reader though)

Myth

@Micke.. Naa.. I liked the design and the sound.. But It was to plastic..... And could not play any quality under 192kbs... one more thing was that i could not have 256mb memory, only 128mb.. so i had to buy 2 128mb MS duo card to use....
I wont get one again.. I have another Mp3 player that is much better

this is a pretty old post 01-07-2004

my comment would be .... yes it interacts with the phone but 64MB come on get serious whats that about 12 tracks at 192bit !?

for the same price you can get 256mb or better that takes any bitrate mp3 or wma for that matter

and a whole lot of us here have mp3 mobile phones that hold more too lol

Suggestion:

A Sony Style at this price? Ofcourse it,s not perfect but remember it,s original SE accesory so it,s not cheap. Then again it,s a very stillysh thing so don,t hope for the best performance, plus it uses only MS, max 128. Have one, use it every day on my way to work and I use only accumulators, 800mah, the batteries are practically eaten alive. The only real minus are the helmets. Awfull sound, poor quality they make noises and harmed my ears with the plastic parts. I have changed them with, of course, Sony headsets and everuthing changed for the better.
