W995 youtube problem

Hi everyone,
A new phone to look forward to SE w995,
I bought my K850 in a hurry when it was launched but after using it for sometime then came all the threads for how many bugs it has, i dont want to repeat the same mistake again with w995...
looking at w995's features i m tempted to buy one , and this time i did some research and came across one particular bug,, the youtube application in the phone doesnt play the Videos, apparently their is no audio or video, just a blank screen if u launch a video.. same with any other video streaming...
Do anyone of you own a w995 and do you have the same problem..
and also internet browsing through wifi is a bit slow.. like took forever to open the playnow homepage...
please list all the bugs u hve faced with your w995.. so that people can read and then make a decision whether to buy or not to buy the phone.

on mine only the bbc i player does not work everything else is fine

i am on my 2nd phone now in 4days as 1st handset was a complete dud. still no streaming of videos over web wap or wi-fi with this w995. it is a common problem and i would think Sony may be working on a fix but different network operators will apply this fix at their own time so it could be quite a wait for streaming for some people. yet another example of Sony releasinf handsets without testing or any quality control!

Mi vid utube etc works ok in some locations and not in others - when the 3G goes it breaks up, my laptop doesnt work in some locations either.

i got the phone today, and to my horror the streaming videos dont work. neither in 3g nor in wifi

The 3G icon is actually always there on my w995. On my w910 it always disappeared and never came back until I researched for a connection. Then it stayed for 10 seconds and disappeared.

YouTube videos actually do work on my w995 with screen and audio

I av ad a w995 for about 3 week now and I am quite happy with it however the other day I took a picture holding the fone vertical then tryed to maximize it to use az a wallpaper an black bars appeared on the date an time then it said wallpaper set but it stayed the same also while watching iplayer In landscape mode I paused it then tryed to un-pause and it crashed an took at least 5 minutes to restart!!!, I thort SE would av sorted these bugs, Also when pressing right * left left * left * I noticed 'slider flip count' does any one no wot this is for because its still on '0'

i also have the flip count as 0, and DJ-craig- where is the location u use the phone (e.g. europe, london, USA, etc ...). and do u have 3G icon on the main screen.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A W995A. can you post the configuration info from the phone. this information is under service menu->service info->configuration.

You began those keystrokes at the home screen? I'm asking this because my w995 is Vodafone branded (not going to debrand or mod my w995) and it goes to a Dutch MySpace type site called Hyves.

The wallpaper looks like that because the wallpaper depth is different then your screen depth. It gets resized but not stretched over the screen. If you want to use the fullscreen for a wallpaper you'd have to edit it in Photoshop or any other graphics program. So, nope.. that's not a bug.

I suppose iplayer is a custom installed application? Since that's not installed on my w995. If it is a custom installed application, then you're wrong to blame SE for it.

i have a youtube app on my w995 and it just gives "operation failed" when i try to use it now. it used to open but would not stream any video or audio. this is either sony app or from Meteor my network provider.

i got the full 3g symbol on mine today for a while, it looked good but sadly my network are still rolling their 3g network out in my area.

Anyone with w995a, please post your firmware version, and also whether youtube works on your phone or not. if it works please specify your country and Carrier.

you tube works but iplayer crashes! yes i do av a 3G icon and i am using it in south yorkshire area (middlands ov UK) my firmware version is R1EA032.

hey guys the reason i started this thread was to know , which w995 can play youtube videos , because apparently some can play and some cannot, may its because of some settings, so please if youtube works on your phone , submit ur phone's , firmware revision, region, carrier and also whether your phone is locked or unlocked.

an update guys, today i finally managed to play youtube on my phone through wifi. i just opened ports 9000 to 20000 on my wifi router and the youtube started to work. but it works only for 15 secs, after that again my router gets disconnected. i think the problem is wth router and not the phone

Mine plays You Tube Vids through 3G but not through wifi SE tell me there is no problem with the phone but " With the first firmware there could be some problems with Youtube. When using WiFi however the routers firewall must support "RTSP" and there are several routers that do not support this. Please check with the support for the router if they have any firmwareupgrade that adds support for RTSP.

this applications and some other settings r different from a country to another country. for example i bought a w995 from Germany and use it in Turkey. normally youtube is forbidden for turkish IPs only open with some DNS adresses but without any changes im able to join youtube from java programme,opera or another..
i dont have bbc i player too. if u want try to change ur custom xml file cda number with other country and update fw.. lots of problems will be solved i think.
edit: i dont use 3G.. im able to it from every dsl router.. strange but great thing

The next settings i needed to change on my W995 because the default settings from my isp or SE did not work correct.
I use the latest firmware from SE.

Mobile networks (select network):
Choose the network that is using this icon: small house + 3G

internet settings (data account):
APN: internet.proximus.be (wap.proximus.be failed at youtube)

Streaming settings (data account):
APN: internet.proximus.be (wap.proximus.be failed at youtube)

After changing this YouTube running 100% on WI-FI, WAP and Gprs.

IRC, GPS, MSN, YouTube, Google Maps, .. its all working for me

Hey guys I found a solution for this problem. I don't know about the iplayer but it works with all other streaming apps.

This is what you do:

Step 1: First you have to check what your current IP settings are. Go to Setting > Connectivity > Wi-Fi > Your current connection > Options > Information. Now you have to remember or write down the IP adress, Subnetmask and DNS server.

Step 2: You have to make sure your phone has a static IP address. You can accomplish this by going to Setting > Connectivity > Wi-fi > The connection witch you are connected with. Press Options > Edit settings. Here you you have to edit the IP address. You have to change you IP like this: If it was 192.168.1.4 first, change it to 192.168.1.104. If it was something like 10.0.0.3, change it to 10.0.0.103 or something like that. Then you have to change the subnetmask and DNS server to what you have written down. Save your settings. It is recommended to verify that you phone browser can still connect.

Step 3: Here comes the tricky part. You have to open up a DMZ (demilitarized zone, this means that all ports are forwarded to your phone) to the IP adress you just assigned to your phone. In most cases the IP adress of you router is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. You can check it like this: Go to Start > Run > Type CMD > Enter > type ipconfig. The IP adress next to Gateway is probably you router. Enter this IP in your browser (on you computer) and fill in your user name and password. Here you have to search for an option like DMZ, it is probably somewhere in the security area. When you have found it, enter the IP adress you assigned to your phone and save your settings.

This should do the job. Have fun streaming!
