Mp3 and Firmware

I'm new to this so bear with me please. I've just bought a USB bluetooth adapter to tranfer files and music etc to my K700i but whenever I send the music files, they are not ompressed to mp3 format and I therefore cant open and use the music. Any suggestions? I may sound really stupid but like I said I am new to this!
Also, I hear people talk of firmware updates. How and where do I do this as twice now I have had my phone hang on me then start working again but with factory settings restored :(

first you habe to convert the audio file (i think u have wav) to mp3 format.
