What takes up space in your SIM memory that is within your immediate control is divided into 2 basic parts - Archived SMS and Phonebook saved in your SIM.

To check and delete archived messages, press Messaging->Text->Sim archive. Start highlighting your archived messages then press "c" in the highlighted message that you wish to delete.

The second part is the Phonebook entries saved in your SIM. To delete them, press Phonebook->Advanced->Call from SIM->Just press down on the joystick and you should see you phonebook entries in your SIM. Highlight the entries that you wish to delete (via scolling using the joystick), then on the highlighted entry, press "c". Press Yes to delete the entry.

Going through the above will free-up your SIM.

Hope this helps.

Cheers !!!

Many Thanks Jamba.
When I go to Messaging>text> the only options I have are: - inbox, Options, SMS memory
The inbox is empty
The options is empty
SMS memory - this shows phone 0% and SIM 100%

where do i find the archive on the SMS?

@duck&dive

It is very clear that your SMS is automatically saved in your SIM card. This is why your SMS memory says 0% for the phone and 100% for the SIM. Hence, you get the error that your SIM is full.

Protoman MIGHT BE correct in the sense that you MAY have a different firmware. There MUST be a way to access info on your SIM. Once you are able to do this, you can delete them. There also must be a way to configure the phone to save SMS on the phone's memory in the event that it is INDEED a difference in firmware.

I suggest you check out the users manual. However, I seriously doubt it if it is a firmware difference because these are all basic in SE T610 phones - from the R1A to the latest firmware. Could it be possible that you have a corrupted firmware ? I suspect this because you said that your "options" was empty. This cannot be the case because under the options menu, there must be at least 2 items - Message Alert and Voice Mail Number. So I seriously suspect a corrupted firmware.

If you find that your users manual say that the other options are there but can't find it in your phone, back up your phone's data and do a master reset and see if your firmware will load properly.

If the problem persists, I suggest taking your phone to the nearest SE service center.

Hope this helps. Cheers !!!

So I seriously suspect a corrupted firmware.

More like a custominaztion that some "smart guy" thought of!! Like on my T610, i dont have a GPRS indicator!! Some "smart guy" at T-mobile didnt think we customers needed it, so they customized the firmware and took it out!!

Yup, maybe a "smart guy" did this kind of customization so you can also check out this angle. However, I still think that it is a corrupted firmware as it seems like the "smart guy" is not so smart after all. Can you imagine having a customization that places all SMS on the SIM but does not give you access to delete them ?

Also, as I had stated, in the "Options" menu, you should find the Message Alert and Voice Mail Number options. It does not seem logical that you cannot set this. True, you can set the message alert tone in the Settings->Sounds and alerts menu, but where do you set the Voilce mail number.

As an immediate solution to your SIM Memory Full Problem, borrow someone else's phone and insert your SIM card in your friend's phone and start deleting the messages. Temporary solution while you are diagnosing your phone.

Cheers !!!

I found somebody with a suitable phone and they deleted my messages. Can received messages but if i archive them i can't delete. so will have to return to Orange when i get back to the UK. I think now that it is a fault in my firmware. which is annoying as i am 5000 miles away from the shop i brought it!!!!!.
