Ok Guys, I am also fortunate now. It seems everyone is supposed to offer a post in this forum and your prayer is answered ;) . Now, what did i do??

Part I

I checked up another forum.. it said install opera using device explorer- so i removed it from my phone- downloaded a fresh Operamini ver 2 and installed it by device explorer. deleted all data, internet, java accounts from the phone.

Part II
i checked the com port setting and changed it to COM5 instead of COM8.
Why?
COM8 was listed in PC->DeviceManager>Ports(COM&LPT) > SonyEricsson 750 USB ..(Blah blah..)
(and it was not working)

Then i chanced upon to check PC->DeviceManager>Modems>SonyEricsson 750 USB WMC Data Modem

Checked its properties and found its on COM5.

Fired up opera from device manager and it WORKED.. i could even run other apps like mobile maps, wayfinder etc..

try it

Just tried it on the other comp with dial up ... and its working there too.. had to change the port to Modem ...

Thanks to cpyder's post about making sure to install Opera Mini from Device Explorer. I think this is what I didnt do the first time. I also didnt need to add any new profiles or anything. I also opened up port 80 on my router, don't know if that did anything. And checked device manager>modems and saw that the w810i data modem was connected to COM4 and changed my settings in the Connection Proxy Settings. Thats it. woohoo.

You are welcome friend, :) I dont think opening port on router has anything to do with it,, I dont have it opened. And now i dont think that even installing opera from device manager was necessary. Coz other apps like wayfinder are running and accessing the internet and I installed them directly.

OK, another question - while using opera mini (yeah, even the 'hacked widescreen version) this way I can't download stuff from SE website and built in wap browser doesnt work. Any work arounds for that? Or is there any download manager for mobile phones(read K750i). (Sorry Kobrakaan for diverging from the thread topic a little.)

not as far as i know ... you cannot use the inbuilt browser as you cannot launch it as a java application :(

you can use E-MSN to chat on msn via the internet connection you used for opera :)

Does this work on the K800i?
Does this work without step 4, so when I load Opera from SDK, should it connect to the net straight away?

Also, can someone explain how to use the "remote" on K800i. Cheers :)

How do we know if its using the internet through our pc's and not its GPRS?

D_gamer
11-26-2006, 10:37 PM
We know that it's connected to the internet through our pc's and not through GPRS , because the little "earth" icon next to the signal indicator is not displayed. If you can see it, then it's using GPRS.

Then I'm doing something wrong.

I've installed JDK, and all that.

I cant open Opera using the * button from my Desktop Remote control. (I have got the minibroswer.lnk on my desktop with the numbers edited).

I have the connection proxy open and connected, Opera open also, and still when i try to use Oprea Mini the GPRS globe is coming up. I check my data counters on my phone and it gets higher.

(Using k800i)

EDIT:

I got the shortcut to work. I chaged it form the * buttons to the 0 button and that works now.

But i get this error come up, from Opera Mini:

"There was a problem connecting. There might be a problem with your network setup. Please go to Tools > Help > Introduction and perform the connection test. (error: 3.0.10:80/)."

EDIT #2:

The Connection Proxy disconnects itself.

@Coloasus (And you should be very careful with that, because your operator may charge you lots of money for that- this happened to me-the first time I thought that it was working, so i downloaded a free video from SE wap site and I got charged 3 euros ! ) First of all, to avoid being connected by mistake "wreck" your internet settings. For example, my APN adress (located in the data accounts menu) is: "gwap.b-online.gr" So, to avoid being connected by mistake, i delete the "r" letter of the address. If i want to fix it , I add it again ! Try to do the same if it helps! :D

A question: When you bought your pc's bluetooth device, didn't it have a service window like this one?(see attachment)If yes, fing the right bluetooth port and connect with your phone from your pc.(Adjust the port from the service window of your bluetooth device) Then, when you find the port, enter it (or type it) in the connection proxy settings window. (for example "COM27"). then, connection proxy will connect with your phone form your pc. Then ,start opera mini from the device explorer window. And another thing: sometimes, if you do everything right, but can't connect with your phone, switch you phone off and then back on. It may solve the problem.Sometimes it works for me.

I lost the CD for my bluetouth dongle. I've had it for a while now, and since i had to do a whipe of my PC a couple of months ago i dont have the software installed. But i do know windows has reconsied it and it is working. Theres a "Bluetouth" connection in My Network Connections and ConnectionProxy has a link.

Also, the shortcut is opening Opera Mini on my mobile (as it should) but not Opera on my PC.

I just tried this too and , not only connection proxy disconnects itself, but also it made my phone lag for five minutes. You have to enter ports for it to work properly ( btw remote control is GREAT!-it is the first time i've ever controlled my pc, with my mobile phone playing the role of the mouse and keyboard).Your last option is to use the USB cable to connect with your phone. Enter the port of the USB cable in the connection proxy settings window. then, start opera mini. I used to connect with my old K750i by this way before buying the bluetooth dongle.

CoLoSsusS
11-27-2006, 12:36 AM
I dont think you can do that because the remote control has to use bluetouth to connect to what it controlling?

But you won't use "remote control" this time. Connect the phone with the computer using the USB cable and chose "phone mode". then , leave your phone idle and find the port that corresponds to your USB cable. (for exaple: " COM16") . When you find it (you can also use MyPhoneExplorer and let it search for your phone-it will tell you the port of the cable), enter this port in the connection proxy settings window and let it connect with your phone. Once connected, start opera mini from the device explorer window.

Ok, here is what I do.

Open ConnectionProxy and make the connection.
Go to the Desktop Remote Control on my k800i, and press the shortcut key.
Operamini starts up on my phone, but Opera on my pc doesn't.
I open Opera on my PC manually.
I test Operamini's connection.
It fails.
I test again.
It works.
I start browsing.
10-20 seconds into me being happy because I think I've got it working, ConnectionProxy disconnects.

I have now been trying for hours to use this method with my W850i. Late yesterday I got it to work.
First important step is to use HTTP connection in Opera Mini 3, _NOT_ socket.
Data account, here I use the account that was created when I first set up the Bluetooth connection, it has a little BT logo on the side.
In Internet settings för Java applications I created a new setup. Leave everything empty and use the BT connection mentioned above. _DO NOT_ use a proxy.
Now the phone is ready. How to connect the phone with SE Proxy and DeviceExplorer have been mentioned before, then start opera.

First of all, I did the connection test in opera with normal gprs. After that Opera starts without a problem.
In the menu under settings you'll find connection type, socket/http.
When I changed to http everything just worked, then I removed the settings one at a time, and found out that the only thing you have to change is the internetprofile (so it does NOT use a proxy).
