If you want to backup games you need the following:
-a k750 (or w800)
-the USB data cable, which comes with the phone.
-a PC with a bluetooth dongle or IR.
1-Download the game to your phone.
2-Move the game to the external memory.
3-Connect the phone to the PC with the usb cable and go to the "MSSEMC/System/Ams" folder.
4-Get the "*.jar.sest" file (the real game file) and copy it into the "MSSEMC/Media Files/Other" folder. Use the USB cable to do this.
5-Disconnect the phone and go to the "Other" folder (using the phone)
6-You will find the game in that folder. Now send it to the PC via Bluetooth or IR (using the "Send" option of your phone)
7-You will recieve a .JAR file in your PC. (not a .jar.sest file)
Now you'll have successfully backuped the game.
NOTE: you can also backup the games in .SEST format if you are going to use them only with k750, because this phone supports .SEST files. You will only need to follow steps 1, 2, 3, and copy the .jar.sest file to the PC. However, we reccomend you to backup all your games in .JAR format, which is supported by most phones.
EDIT: This method only works with firmwares R1L and older. Newer firmwares automatically protect the games when they are downloaded to the phone.

Great hi-ban. Thank you

Thanks for the tut. Great stuff. Didn't know the part converting the .sest file to normal jar.
I suppose this will also work with IR (instead of bluetooth) which is what I normally use.

I cant move games to external memory... The text "Move to ext. memory" is gray.
Just trying som possible explanations...
1. Is your phone branded?
2. Did you try to move a preinstalled game?
3. Is your memory stick full?
4. Was your phone connected to the PC when trying to move the game?

@hi-ban
I've tested this a little and I don't think just backing up the .jar.sest file will do you any good even if you're just going to use it on a K750
True, you can send the file from your PC using ir or bt and it goes into the "other" forlder. The K75o recognises the .jar.sest file but you cannnot install the game...
The only options you get when you highligt the .jar.sest file and press the more button is send or move.
Did you successfully install a .jar.sest file sent from your PC to the phone?

with the cable, if you put the game in "other" folder, you can install it, but if you send .jar.sest via BT you can't install the game

To get the .sest files working in the k750 you have to transfer them ONLY using the usb cable, browsing your memory card from your PC. If you use any other method it doesn't work.
@LIAL:Terjef is right: to move the games to the ext. memory, your phone must be disconnected from the PC, you must have enough free space in your memory stick and, of course, preinstalled games cannot be moved to the ext. memory.
If all this fails, you may upgrade your firmware to a newer or unbranded one.
I'm going to buy a w800 this week. I'll test if this also works in w800.
Wow, this is amazing. I just post a question about this in mobile9.com. I thought I come here to see if anyone know about this. Never thought it will be a complete step on how to do it.:p :p
Thanks, hi-ban. : wrshp : : wrshp :

HI-BAN, what about protected jar.sest? Some games can't be backed up using your method. You said on HE that there's a way? ;)
hi-ban
12-12-2005, 09:01 PM
There is a way to unprotect protected JAR files, but you can't unprotect .SEST files, so if you purchase a game, you may download it using the Opera Trick.
Currently there is no way to extract a protected game from the phone to the PC, and only JAR files can be unprotected (not .SEST), so be sure to download the game directly to your PC, so you can later unprotect it if it's protected.

I see. So currently IMO there are these ways of backup:
1. Buy the game, receive sms with link, download jad and jar in a PC browser with changed user-agent string - it's the simplest method
2. Buy the game, receive sms with link, download jad and jar in internal wap browser, install it and make a backup using your method with .jar.sest - doesn't work always, right?
3. Buy the game, receive sms with link, download jad and jar in internal wap browser of K700 (!). Get the jar from internal file system (/tpa/preset/system/ams if not mistaken) using setool, cruiser etc. No tool can download files from internal FS of K750 and higher.

place UrGame.jar in the MS duo 'other folder', u can access UrGame.jar thru ur File Manager. Select UrGame.jar to install, select the phone 'Game folder' for games and 'Application folder' for application.

Those who have the R1AA08 firmware able to backup their games? I wasn't able to do any of the step mentioned above. I got the HP Print and World Clock backed up because I found it the sony ericsson WAP website for free. Cuz I did a master reset on my s700i once, and let's just say, it took me a while to put it back to its semi-original state.

some games and apps can't be backed up by this method
by the way if you have a memory stick read on your computer you only need to move the file to the external memory and copy it to the computer after putting it into the card reader
some programs can make a total backup of your phone like My Phone Explorer
You can open this backup and extract the wanted files :P

Is it also possible to download the .jar file back to the computer, because after i have installed the .jar file, i delete it, so the game is on my phone, but not in "Other".
But i maybe if i copy all the games to my memory card, and after updating putting the card back into my phone, are the games then still on my phone ??, or not??.
I hope someone knows the answer
Thanks in advance !!!!!.

I have a question how I backup the games I buy on my k750i.
I did have a k700 before and I used Proxomitron and it worked great.
When I write this is useragent on Proxomitron I almost always get file with the k700 in the filename name like it identify the phone as k700i:
I use this settings:
HTTP Header:
User-Agent: SonyEricssonK750i/R1C (this is the firmware version I have)
Replacement text:
SonyEricssonK750i/R1C
What have I done wrong?
Is it any other way to backup the games?

The correct user agent for K750 is:
User-Agent: SonyEricssonK750i/R1A Browser/SEMC-Browser/4.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
Replacement text: SonyEricssonK750i/R1A Browser/SEMC-Browser/4.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
It doesn't matter what firmware you have on your phone.
You can also download the games to your phone and transfer them to a PC using a new program called Far Manager.
Read more about it here: http://www.forum.minig.co.uk/showthread.php?tid=1910
