I'm thinking about purchasing the k750i from Hong Kong. I've done a little research and the network frequencies are different from North American phones. Will it work in Canada? I have a feeling it will but i want to make sure.

@centrifugal

What type of network frequncy does Canada use ? if it uses the 850.frequency , then i doubt the K750i will work in the Ameraicas for the Specifications of the K750i states :

Networks
* GSM 900
* GSM 1900
* GSM 1800

i am not sure if SE is going to release the K750a soon , as the S710a was release at a rather later date than the S700i

I'm not sure what freuquency Canada uses, but when I looked at North American phones.. their frequencies are somewhat like this: 850, 1800, 1900.
I'm not sure which one Canada uses but its most likely 850. =\
My mom's phone is the T310(she currently uses this T310 in Canada) and she purchase it in Hong Kong aprox 2-3 years ago. The T310 has..
* GSM 1900
* GSM 1800
* GSM 900
(got it from Hong Kong ver of SE's website)
Now looking at the Canadian one, the frequencies are the same. So I have a feeling the k750i should work now.. but I want to make sure.

I'd appreciate it if someone told me the frequency Canada uses. Also, can't a country use more than 1 frequency? So more phones would be compatible.

edit: currently I am using the T616, and it differs from the T610 in the frequency. (850 replacing 900) I also did some searching on Rogers' site (Canadian cell phone provider) and every phone had 850 =\

well Z500a and T616 uses different frequency as T610 and Z500i .............i'll recommend that you check out with SE whether will the K750i bought in HK work in Canada via Email ? ......for i am not sure if the K750i is Quadband ,as stated in the previous post that the K750i does not support 850 frequency :(

After a little research, Canada, US and Mexico uses the 850/1900 frequencies. Canada primarily uses the 1900 frequency in urban areas with 850 as a back-up frequency. This is probably why your mom's phone worked in Canada, because it has the 1900 frequency.

I strongly suggest that you consult your mobile service provider in Canada. Although you can use the K750i because of the common 1900 frequency, there are some providers that use multiple frequencies in varying areas of coverage. If this is the case, your phone might work in some areas while "no network" coverage in others.

Check out THIS (http://www.explore-telecom.com/telecommunications/G/GSM_frequency_ranges.html) site to get more information on GSM frequencies.

I hope this helps.

rogers uses 1900 and 850 while fido uses 1900. k750i will work with either networks

Thanks for the info. My parents have decided that the k750i is too expensive to buy anyway.

rogers uses 1900 and 850 while fido uses 1900. k750i will work with either networks

In areas where the 850 frequency is used, the K750i will not work. This is because the said phone model does not support the 850 frequency.

Cheers !!!

Hmm.. I live in Toronto and at Pacific Mall.. Fido was selling the k750i for $900ish. While my Dad's colleague's brother in law is a phone trader/collecter person, and he could get it for around $650 from Hong Kong. (canadian dollar of course).
