Hi i was just comparing my mates 7650 with my brand new T610 and i found this software on his phone , which actually allows him to take snaps after zooming them.. upto 1600 % zoom ! the software is called photographer , and its also got functions such as panoramic veiw and mirror image and such others.Im sure its got something to do with ure phone camera , coz there is just a bit of a difference between the 7650 camera and the T610 one .. Infact if anything i think the camera in T610 has so many more functions than the one in 7650 .. help people ? :o

The camera in the 7650 is far better than the one in the T610 as it's VGA for a start which means 640x480, rather than the T610's 352x288.
The 7650 is a smartphone the T610 isn't. The 7650 costs alot more, etc.

Have you actually viewed the images taken with your T610 on a PC. They are terrible, if you apply a digital zoom to that then it's only going to make it worse. A zoom would only be usefull as a gimmick without a major hardware upgrade in my opinion.

I think the best we can hope for is a firmware upgrade, but whether SE think it's worth while to add this gimmick is debatable.

I don't mean to sound negative I think the T610 is a great phone, I even bought another one after I trashed my first one mountain biking. I'm just being realistic...

Hi

hello, i totally agree with the last statement, the camera isnt all that, and i v.much doubt it that they will relese a hardware update . I know that its anoyying...well it does me any way, also i think the nokia 7250 is a good camera phone :( .

BUT i still love myT610 ;)

well yes i guess the camera is better in a 7650 , but then we have a few modes in T610 that the 7650 doesnt have , although hardly usefull .. the camera is anyway a toy in cellphones ! But i think 7250 is a terrible camera phone , i think its resolution is much less than a T610 leave alone a 7650 ! 8) .. I think the T610 would really prosper with a hardware upgrade or if the CC was altered a bit , i dont see a reason why it shouldnt be done !

i have to say that the t610 camera is not all that, but for me its ok i dont mind the the large size on the camera its ok for me i back up every day though my p800 on to pc to mmc on my mp3, but one thing that p****** me off about the t610 is that the they way the images are saved, a 20k picture becomes 56k or some thing, but the sounds and other file stay the way they sould be,

I spoked to sony ericsson and they told me thats how they save the images.
i know that nokia ones save them in real space eg 20k pic = 20k pic
but the mms on nokia is sh1t 1 pic and 1 sound 1 text or one of every thing, while the t610 has 13 of any order you like and + you can make slide shows with times and colour and diffrent size texts which make it more fun, :P and you get smilies and a load of other things, i like my t610 much better then any nokia

The thing is, the camera in the T616 isn't supposed to be a "Great" camera. It's designed to take snapshots, and business-card-type photos, etc. Before getting the T616, I was contemplating the Nokia 3500. It has a better camera, but the phone is bigger, the battery life is worse, it was $200 more, etc. I already have a really good digital camera that I use for photographing special occasions. The advantage of the T616 camera is that it's always with you, for getting those shots of a pig drinking cappuccino, or whatever else they suggest in the commercials. At least that's my take on it.

I agree with varun123 in the the sense that cameras in mobile phones are more like toys rather than a true functional digital camera with full zoom capability.

In the first place, you can only do so much with digital zoom. If one wants a real zoom feature, then no camera, SE or Nokia, is capable of it yet since the camera lens will need replacement into a real zoom lens. You can just imagine how much this would cost at present values.

In my opinion, the camera in mobile phones is just a way of exchanging images that are built more for a phone rather than for "photographer's choice" purposes. Digital zoom capability is available in most photo-editing software. So if what one wants is to take a photo for archival and printing purposes, then the T610 large image format is sufficient. Take a photo then transfer to your PC then just enhance using Photoshop.

This method should be better than just "digital zoom" as provided in the third party software for the Nokia. And chances are, the brick-layers (Nokia 7650/3650 users .... lol) are probably doing what I just said.

The thing is it could have been a bit better if they could actually include a VGA loaded cam in a T610 ..though the phone still rocks , im sure the memory really upsets people! 2 MB for a camera phone is very less , that is perhaps the only major downside of this phone , everything else is quality ! The memory if not expandable could have atleast been somewhere in the area of 5 MB , im sure that wouldnt really require a modification in size in anyway .The is awesome on the whole , awesome resolution , just way ahead of any of the phones in the market , the competitor 3650 has a awfull keypad and is disgustingly huge.

As nearly as I can tell, and I might be wrong about this, the T616 is exactly like the T610, except it's for providers that use a SIM card, like Cingular. I don't think the T610 has a place for a SIM card.

T610 is the standard phone. T616/T618 are variants. T616 is available only in the US and Canada. T618 is more for the Chinese market as it has Chinese character entries. On the whole, there really is no difference between the variants.

It's just a way to distinguish where it is coming from. It's just like vehicles. In most countries, we have the Mitsubishi Pajero. In the US, it is called the Mitsubishi Montero. In the UK, it is called Mitsubishi Shogun. But it is just the same vehicle.

Hope this hels. Cheers !!!

Just wanted to add that the variants also represent slightly different frequency settings.

For instance the t616 primary frequency is for american gsm market frequencies, with the other 2 frequency modes being "universally" compatible (meaning you can find a major carrier for those frequencies in most of the world markets).

Cheers,
Gabe

Yup, forgot about that. Spazzwig is right.

T610 uses 900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies.
T616 uses 850/1800/1900 MHz frequencies.
T618 is the same as T610 except for that it includes Chinese character set.
