I have vodafone live and dl'd the Hong Kong Phooey theme from here which comes with a MP3 ringtone and, yes, it has a key by it but I can't set it as the ringtone.

I've had my phone unlocked and still can't set MP3's as ringtones!! :mad:

Hi, for seem reason the previously mentioned method did not work for me on my voadafone branded k700i. I found that when using nokia multimedia converter 2 (free downoad-just search google) to convert mp3 to amrs they much to my suprise were availiable to be used as rigtones. The quailty inevitably suffers slighty but i have found it to be fine purely for ringtone purposes and it also saves alot of space producing much smaller files :) .

PS-sorry if someone has allready mentioned it just thought it might be useful for those for whom the drm solution has not worked and don't really want to risk de-branding.

Why can't I log in to download the software? It's not recognising the password!

No luck here either. It keeps reporting that "limited number of plays and therefore not suitable for ringtone". Aaaaaargh!!!! I can't even listen to the .dm file!!!

Hi!

I also have vodafone and I didnt got it to work with the settings that were on the first page but when I changed the DRM method under configuration to forward-lock instead of combined-delivery it worked like a charm...

Hope it will help someone :)

Just done this on a Vodafone S700i using the exact settings specified on the 1st page of this thread.

Worked perfectly. :)

1 question though, what happens at the specified 'End time', will the file stop working?

the DRM file once on the phone can not be sent to another phone you still have to have the original file to be able to forward to someone else

yes, it has a key with a slash ( / ).

I also get the key with slash and am unable to make media player or ringtone use of my 1.5mb mp3. I followed instructions to the letter using combined delivery and setting start and end dates. The phone sees the dm file but says the key is missing? any help much appreciated, please try the file in link that follows to see if it works for you...

Ive done everything upto creating the DRM content but dont know how to send it to my phone. Its probably something obvious but its doing my head in.

Somebody please help a novice in distress.

Im using a USB - DCU 11 cable if that makes it easier.

Many thanks.

HI All,
Just though I'd make something clear, if it already hasn't that the issue with Vodaphone branded phone's can not be bypassed by unlocking the phone. The phone has to be de-branded!! :D

I did this not so long ago and roll on SE : SE : orginal software : wrshp :

If you want to debrand you phone read the following -

Found this tip on another forum - thought I'd share it.

If you want to play your own MP3s as ringtones, you need to add protection content. You can do this by downloading the "Sony Ericsson DRM Packager Tool" available from http://developer.sonyericsson.com. You'll need to register at first.

Here's a link directly to the utility once logged in... http://developer.sonyericsson.com/ge...do?docId=65056

Step 1.

Download and install the Sony Ericsson Digital Rights Management Packager

Step 2.
Select a mp3 you would like to protect. In this example we will use a small mp3 sound effect.
(Right click save target/link as) http://lasyk.addr.com/joannak/ohoh.mp3

Step 3.
Run DRM Packager
Start->Programs-> Sony Ericsson-> DRM Packager-> DRM Packager
Go to File, add files and select the mp3 you saved from the link above.

Step 4. (Configuration)
Go to Options -> Configuration -> and select combined delivery and click OK

Step 5 (Rights)
Go to Options -> Rights
Please fill in the following information:
Content ID: myForumExample
@ : Lasyk.net
Enable right = checked
Start time checked and date set to December 6, 2004
End time checked and date set to December 6, 2005

Step 6 Creating the dm file(s)
Click on Create DRM content
Now you can send this file to your device , you will be able to set this mp3 as a ringtone

The best place to go for the download is -

But remember you have to register for free 1st with SE : SE : to be allowed to download the DRM Packer!!

cri8ive
09-10-2006, 08:02 AM
i m using SE W810i. and i do not know what you mean when u say if it includes the operators customizations. I just got it like a week ago so i m fairly new at all these stuff. i m in canada and i have rogers wireless service..

cri8ive
09-10-2006, 08:49 PM

When you send this (http://www.lasyk.com/download/ohoh.dm) file to your phone do you get the same error?

cri8ive
09-10-2006, 09:56 PM
should i be in phone mode when tranfering or file transfer?

i tried your file still gives me the same msg

webmaster
09-10-2006, 10:21 PM
You get this error because the dm file you used has expired, try this -> http://www.myk700.lasyk.net/preview/26741/-1077621042/K700-Ringtones-Sound%20Effects-Ambulance.html

You can simply paste the file by connecting the usb cable to your W810 in file transfer mode or phone mode.

cri8ive

Ok well this file is working fine.. now if you can tell me how convert my mp3 to .dm so i can use it?

webmaster
09-11-2006, 04:24 AM
The dm file above was made following this set of steps (http://myforum.lasyk.net/showpost.php?p=90810&postcount=2)

If you still are having trouble, please zip and attach the dm file here.

cri8ive
09-11-2006, 06:28 PM
hey it still does not work. The file i got from the site ambulance. When i put that in my fone there is a key symbol infront of the file name. When i make my own .dm files there is a line across that key symbol. Attached is a zip file which contains the .dm file that did not work and the mp3 file which i m trying to make .dm

I would also like to thank you for helping me out with this matter :)

Hello,
I tried to follow the steps to apply mp3 to my phone and it still doesnt work. Once I sent the file to my phone through the SE PC Suite, I tried to set it as rigntone and it tells me that "not able to be use as a ringtone as yet". I checked the information on the file and it says the license not activated yet?

What can I do to make it work? any suggestions? I want to avoid paying 45 dollars to debrand it.

Thanks!!:mad:

i had the same problem. it all depends what you put the start date and end date as. so put the start date somtime 2005 and end date as 2009 or some.. and that should do the trick

@treo650crazy

It has been reported that, for some users the copy / paste method using the USB cable through My Computer does not work. You will need to send the file to your phone using My Phone Explorer, Send File, or FMA. If you have a IR or Bluetooth adaptor you can use the Bluetooth Send to device function.

Yes, you are correct the ohoh.dm did not work. The rights expired in 2005, I have updated the file.

download ohoh.dm (http://lasyk.addr.com/joannak/ohoh.dm) (updated)

I'm using a new K790a, and I still can't play that last ohoh.dm... My phone doesn't even realize its an audio file... Its got the key with the slash through it before it, but before the key, there is a picture of a paper... Its with Rogers, so I'm thinking of blaming them...

Any other suggestions?

webmaster
11-10-2006, 09:26 PM
@Botts

What method are you using to transfer the DM file to your phone?
(i.e USB Data Cable My Computer Copy Paste, Bluetooth, IR, etc.)

Botts
11-10-2006, 10:15 PM
Bluetooth through Mac OS:X...

Sony sent me this e-mail:

A recent change has occurred with MP3 restrictions on phones sold through Rogers Wireless and Fido Mobility. This change restricts the ability to use MP3 music as ring tones. This restriction is imbedded into the phone and cannot be changed in the software either manually or through a Software Update. Please note that this change is not specific only to Sony Ericsson phones, but to every brand of phone that Rogers and Fido sells commencing July 2006. If you are unhappy with this restriction, please contact your dealer where the phone was purchased to discuss this matter.

Then Rogers told me it was illegal to use MP3's as ringtones due to copyright law... Due to public broadcasting of copyrighted material... Why then, do they allow me to play my MP3's through the MP3 player on the phone through the speaker phone. I gave the counterargument that I was a music artist (thus owning rights), and they said have the Rogers store call Sony, and have Sony find a way to fix it.

All in all, the customer service experience was terrible as I was assured by the Rogers Sales Associate that MP3's can be used as ringtones... I'm going to go in tonight, have him say that, and just voice record it and mail it to Rogers... I'll tell you how that goes...

As an aside, I'll keep looking for a way to get audio files to work as MP3s... I thought monopolies on products (read: ringtones) were illegal... Obviously not for rogers.

webmaster
11-10-2006, 10:27 PM
@Botts

I will need to get back to you regarding the Rogers branded K790a.

Not so long ago a operator from Japan and Sweden required more complex DRM to prevent this workaround from "working".

Botts
11-10-2006, 10:29 PM
Wow. Talk about extremely sacrificing service for revenue...

In other news,----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just thought of a work around... Not a good one. But it works... Make a video file with the contacts picture as the image, and the song as the soundtrack, export as .mp4 and it works on my K790.

webmaster
11-10-2006, 10:33 PM
@Botts

I was about to ask you if mp4's work;)

Botts
11-12-2006, 12:57 PM
I figured it out!!
You have to transfer the file by bluetooth, while the phone is on, to the primary phone directory, after being received the phone will install the .dm file into the Music file...

Photos of my DRM file settings:

I got it to work with the forward one, and without setting any expiry dates on the content.
